Unsuccessful Purple Hair
I dye my hair a temporary colour sometimes and even though I’m in love with Manic Panic’s Purple Haze, I decided to try some new products which didn’t go quite as well.
First I tried Aesthetic by Lime Crime because the colour looked gorgeous and I absolutely love their lippies, so what did I have to lose? Well, I had nothing to lose, that’s what.
Ummm. There was a good amount of colour in the packaging at least? But obviously it didn’t really do anything to my hair. Some strands had a pinkish highlight, but really? I left the dye in for two hours on my entire head – bleached and natural blonde – and nothing? I don’t even know how that could’ve been achieved but at least it didn’t ruin my hair, I guess. They have great makeup but I’m not going to buy their hair dye again.
Additionally, I got some Dye Hard hair gel from Manic Panic (in the shade Purple Haze of course) because I wanted to try out a product that would stay in my hair for a day only. Since the tubes were small, I used it only on the underside of my hair. At first, it worked pretty well; the colour was pigmented and seemed to flow nicely when brushed out. And then…
Super faded. The product itself was great, it wasn’t messy and it was easy to apply, but I was disappointed that it dried to a very faint purple colour when it was pigmented wet. However the gel was way more successful than Lime Crime’s pretty big failure.
I’d really like to try some more colours from different brands but for now, my favourite is still Manic Panic’s Purple Haze – by a long shot.
I can’t believe 2017 is almost over! I dropped the ball on taking more aesthetically-pleasing photos and that’s really my only goal this year. I’d like photos that look a bit more professional and actually, I’m thinking of painting my room white so I have a clean canvas to take pictures against. In any event, I definitely want to continue blogging through the new year and I hope that better photographs will follow.
I hope everyone has a wonderful new year and that 2018 will treat you well!

Review: The Lovely Rose Apothecary
I have unsuccessfully tried a tonne of different products to help my blemished skin and even through proper usage, I’ve never had a product that actually helped. When I saw The Lovely Rose Apothecary, I decided to give it a try because 1. the branding is fantastic; handmade, vintage-inspired tonics and creams based on flowers? Yes please! And 2. the beautiful Idda Van Munster recommended it so it must have been good.
The Process: They once had a quick quiz to take to determine which of their three skin treatments you need for your skin, but it looks like they just have a contact form now. At any rate, I was supposed to get the geranium skin set because of my blemishes. After deciding on the skin treatment, they have a few skin products to select from: skin tonic, vanishing cream, cold cream, mud masks, and sets. I personally decided on the geranium morning set because I wanted the tonic and a cream. They’re a little bit on the expensive side but being a small, homemade company, it’s to be expected. Even though everything is handmade, the products shipped and arrived at my house fairly quickly.
Using the Product: In the morning, you’re supposed to dampen your skin with the tonic and use the cream over your face; then, in the evening, you’re supposed to use their evening set. I only ordered the morning set and used as directed, but I used it before going to bed rather than in the morning. They don’t specify how much of each product you need to use each day but I’ve been using relatively small amounts, making sure that the amount of tonic I have left matches the amount of cream.
The Verdict: I have before and after pictures below; note that the first picture is a month after I started using another product, so it’s actually the result of another brand I used. As for the Lovely Rose, I started using this product in March and have merely kept forgetting to write a review. I could see results in a week! Not even just my skin looks better but my skin looks nearly perfect! I honestly did not expect such great results in such a short amount of time. But I honestly have to say that I’m incredibly happy that I found a nice product that I like and works for me – works great for me.
Top: After using a different product, before using LRA
Bottom: After using LRA for a few months (though the results were the same a week after I started using it)
If you haven’t found your perfect facial care regimen yet, I highly recommend The Lovely Rose Apothecary because they helped me so much with my skin. They also sell travel beauty sets for $25 if you want a smaller amount of the product to test for a less expensive price.
Let me know if you’ve tried the Lovely Rose yourself, or if you know of a similar brand you’d think I’d enjoy. Until next week!

My Favourite Lipstick Formulas
While I’m waiting to buy more lipstick to do some swatch posts, I decided to dedicate a post to some of the best lipstick formulas I’ve tried. I should perhaps do some of the worst formulas too – so as to potentially help save people money – but I like to keep things on a positive note.
I prefer lipstick that doesn’t smear, doesn’t transfer, and stays on all day. I personally haven’t felt like a formula was too heavy for me, so that’s not one of my concerns, but I know a lot of people are in the same boat and want formulas that last the entire day. So, without further ado, here are some of my favourite formulas:
Black Moon Cosmetics
Black Moon not only has badass packaging but a fantastic formula that’s transfer and smudge proof, and stays pigmented all day. I don’t have many of their lipsticks because I’m not really a nude person but a lot of people love their colours, so they’re definitely worth checking out.
What I love about Besame is their brand is 100% vintage reproduction makeup, and I love brands that have strong branding. They’re really an honorable mention because they don’t have a liquid-to-matte formula but their product still stays on and pigmented all day. It’s not transfer or smudge proof but I can eat/drink without needing to reapply and I never have to worry about the colour getting on other parts of my face. It’s incredible for a stick formula, and this brand is definitely worth trying.
I have a tonne of LA Splash’s lippies and even though they say they have different formulas, I really can’t tell the difference. I love this brand because their lippies never transfer or smudge and they stay pigmented all day. The only thing I don’t like about them is they have sooo many colours that are so similar, but that I still need to buy. I’m going to do a swatch post of them whenever I get around to buying the other colours I want.
Also their lip glosses are terrible. Just be warned!
Lime Crime also has great branding and a similar formula to LA Splash. It’s smudge and transfer proof, and the colours stay all day – which I absolutely love. They also have a more concise collection of lipstick colours, which is a bit better for a lipstick hoarder like me.
If you’re looking for some good lipstick, definitely consider trying the aforementioned brands because they are fantastic and I highly recommend them. Honorable mentions go to Coloured Raine and Anastasia Beverly Hills because their formulas are also fantastic but I don’t own enough of their product to be an expert.
This weather is getting beautiful and I bought my first pumpkin of the season today (the first of many, I’m sure). I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful month!
