Where Have I Been?

So I can successfully say that it’s been less than a month since I last posted, but I wanted to explain where I’ve been and why I haven’t been posting as regularly on the blog.

My answer is really straightforward: I got a new blog that’s taking up a lot of my attention. When I first started 7 Shades in 2016 (the most recent time), I had a 9-to-5 job with 5 vacation days a year and I wanted to blog to promote small brands and products on Etsy. It was never intended to be really popular, but honestly, it never really even got off the ground and it’s been rather disheartening. I posted a few months ago about the body dysmorphia beauty blogging has been bringing back to me.

Also, I’ve had a huge lifestyle change. As a lot of you may know, I love travelling. I’ve written about a few of my adventures here on the site. A year ago, I got laid off and a year ago today, I landed in Switzerland to continue my world travels with my severance money. A few months later, I got a more flexible full-time job in lawn care that also allowed me several months off per year. So now I’m travelling a lot more and plan on visiting Japan, Spain, and Portugal this year, and maybe Massachusetts and/or Mexico in 2018 alone. I’m living my dream and a have a world of a bucket list to see.

So that’s why I started my new blog: I Travel for the Stars. I was really hesitant to start a travel blog since travel is so personal but I’m really enjoying it so far and a lot more people are responding to the content I’m creating. I’m starting conversations rather than getting 6 likes on a selfie of me and my cat. And even though it would be cool to get free lipstick and clothes, it would be so much more rewarding to take sponsored trips and get paid to create content from anywhere. This is my new dream, so I’ve been putting a lot of my work and time into promoting the website. It’s been exhausting to the point that I don’t have much time for 7 Shades like I used to.

So am I closing? No. I actually do enjoy putting outfits together and sharing them on my blog. I’d really like to keep the website up for as long as possible. However, I think I am intent on deleting or abandoning my Instagram account since it received sad traction and it’s the part of blogging I haven’t enjoyed.

So there you have it! I am not disappearing but I will not be putting too much time into this website anymore. I look forward to doing new things with my life and making these changes, and I hope it helps others, as well.

OOTDs and My New Camera

Because of a scheduling conflict, my birthday presents came early, which means my camera did too! I love my new camera! I used to have the Canon Rebel T1i and I got the most recent version – the T7i – for my birthday. I haven’t had a new camera in a while so I miss that feeling of getting something new that’s way better than what I used to have. Don’t you love that?

Anyway, here are some new OOTDs. It has been very hot, about 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and so I haven’t been as creative with my outfits since I’m just always sweating, but I have added a lot of new shorts to my wardrobe. I’ve never been a shorts person but I guess I now am!

Vintage corduroy shorts

Cardigan: Boohoo

Bracelet: WearitOutJewelz

Look at that focus! Look at that lighting! I’m so impressed with the way my camera captures life. In this outfit, I got sick of the typical black shorts so I switched some out for corduroy. I like that the fabric has texture and the colour is so deep. I tend to bring cardigans out with me since air conditioning can make a space absolutely freezing.

Ring by Very Meadow

I’m normally not one for the ripped shorts trend but I actually really liked these shorts. Here they’re paired with a very basic tank top but they’d go well with a variety of tops – once they’re actually wearable. I paired it with one of my favourite rings; I hope to get more from the jeweller when I can.

Apologies that these outfits are a bit basic, but provided the weather gets to a livable temperature, I’ll hopefully have some great new styles soon. Until then, I’m still making $20 website layouts so if you need one, you know where to look. Until next week!

$20 Websites and a Month-Long Hiatus

As promised, I finally do have some news to share with you, so I’ll go ahead and list them below:

I am now offering my web design services! This is pretty huge for me since it’s taken over a decade to grow the confidence to work for someone else, but I finally opened a commissions site and web layouts cost as little as $20 USD, since I need to gather a client base before charging more. This is incredibly cheap for a personal website so please consider me and tell your friends if they’re in need of a website layout.

I don’t normally advertise myself but I’ve been out of a job for three months and I really need the money. However, there is another bit of news I have:

I’m going on a month-long Hiatus. As you probably know, my nice camera was broken at the hands of my father so I’ve asked him to get me a new one for my birthday, which is at the very end of July. Instead of taking blurry and relatively pixellated phone pics, I’m going to wait for a nice camera to continue providing pictures for my blog. I’m sorry but I’ve been looking at my blog and Instagram and it’s not up to my standard. I’d rather put off blogging for another month if it means I can be spared pretty much ruining my image and wasting my time.

I plan on revisiting a lot of clothing and jewellery from my phone pic looks when I return, but I’d also like to expand my horizons with my self-photography. I’d like to start using a tripod, get some new angles, and hopefully my new camera will focus better than my last one did. I don’t believe in editing photographs but it would be nice to have more decent photos to put on the site. Part of the reason I started blogging was to improve my writing, style, and photography skills – so that’s what I’m going to do.

I hope you can find inspiration in yourself and I have some newfound inspiration in myself. I’ll see you in a month and hopefully then, the blog will be able to continue in a much better direction. Until August!
