Review: Function of Beauty
I am very excited that the time has come to review a product that I’ve been waiting years for: a shampoo and conditioner set by Function of Beauty.* Since hair is so unique, I’ve always wanted a hair care product that was made specially for my hair, and that’s what FoB does. You take a hair quiz of what your hair is like, and what you want it to be like – and using an algorithm, they make the perfect shampoo and conditioner set for you. You can also choose your colours and scent, and the bottles with have your name on it – and it’s cruelty-free. Isn’t that perfect?
The Process: The quiz is pretty straight-forward and for a custom shampoo and conditioner set, it’s priced well and ships within a decent amount of time. When it came, it was packaged very nicely and smelled really nice (I got the essential oils). Each product comes with a personalised hair care card that tells you how often you need to wash and condition your hair.
It also comes with a lengthy list of ingredients and will break down what key ingredients do. It’s a bit over my head but I’d give it an A+ for credibility.
First Impressions: I hate to be a cliche and say “it was like day and night,” but I noticed a difference on the first day. My hair felt much lighter on my head, and even though tangling wasn’t anything covered specifically by this brand, I felt like my hair needed less brushing throughout the day. As if I wasn’t already excited enough, I never ever get compliments on my hair, and I actually started getting a few compliments from strangers and people I knew. To be honest, it’s so weird to think a shampoo and conditioner sense can make all the difference in the world, but I attribute the compliments to FoB. If I had to guess, the product worked incredibly well with my hair conditions.
The Hair Goals: What I found the most appealing about FoB is that they not only take your hair type into account but what you want your hair to be like. In the past, when I’ve looked for shampoo, the effects that it would have on my hair was of utmost important to me. So how did FoB stack up?
→ Goal 1: Fixing Split Ends: So my cosmetologist friend informs me that a shampoo/conditioner cannot actual fix or prevent split ends, which I’d completely believe. Even though my hair’s stayed in pretty good shape since I started on FoB, I’m going to have to wait a long time before I see a different in split ends. For now, I’m going to say that I don’t think I’ll have no split ends after using this product, but that’s just because of the nature of hair.
→ Goal 2: Lengthen: Considering that hair grows at an average rate of a half inch per month, my hair certainly grew more than one inch in the past two months. And I’m quite excited to see if it can grow more over a shorter period of time.
→ Goal 3: Volumize: So I have pretty thick hair naturally, but my hair is definitely a bit fuller than it had been two months ago. I still don’t look like I crawled out of 1986 but there’s only so much that can be done for my stubborn hair.
→ Goal 4: Anti-frizz: I have to say this definitely did not help with frizz. It didn’t make it worse but I haven’t noticed any difference.
→ Goal 5: Straighten: Surprisingly, I think this set has helped to straighten my hair. My hair is naturally a bit wavy so it’s not too difficult to straighten, but I’ve noticed I have fewer awkward waves in my hair.
L: Before; R: After
You can see my hair looks healthier and straighter 🙂
In Conclusion: I would definitely recommend this shampoo as the brand is fun, reliable, and has made my hair a lot better than it had been before. My only con is that the hair goals weren’t exactly met within two months, and I’m skeptical they may not be met. But if you’re currently searching for a new hair care set, I’d definitely recommend trying this brand. I’m giving it a good review, and I know hundreds of other users have given a positive word, as well.
